County Leadership for Regional Collaboration and Intergovernmental Planning:
Counties are increasingly providing leadership in addressing inter-jurisdictional issues. On July 16, the NACP co-sponsored a workshop held at the NACo 2007 Annual Conference in Richmond VA entitled “County Leadership for Regional Collaboration and Intergovernmental Planning.”
The presentations (below) explored county-lead regional collaboration initiatives across the nation. The session highlighted both state-mandated and voluntary programs that addressed a variety of planning issues including growth management; land use; economic development; sewer, water, and transportation infrastructure; and public facilities. This session also focused on the techniques and processes as well as the roles of elected officials and professional staff in successful regional collaborative efforts.
